The Bangladesh High Commission in Canada welcomed the arrival of Bangla New Year 1432 with colours, culture, and connection on Monday.
The Pahela Baishakh celebration, held at the High Commission premises in Ottawa, brought together members of the diplomatic corps and Canadian government officials.
The event was filled with warmth and festivity. Traditional music played in the background as guests enjoyed classic Bengali dishes — including panta bhaat, khichuri and traditional Bangladeshi pithas — while sharing in the joy of the occasion.
The event also featured a beautiful exhibition showcasing Jamdani sarees and other elements of Bangladesh’s rich heritage. Many guests adorned their hands with intricate henna designs, joining the festive spirit with others.
“This day is about more than celebration. It is about shared hope, resilience, and a renewed commitment to peace, solidarity, and cultural understanding,” said High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Canada Nahida Sobhan in her welcome remarks.
Through the event, the celebration of Pahela Baishakh — a festival deeply rooted in Bangladesh’s culture and heritage — was showcased to diplomats from various countries based in Canada.
The attending guests appreciated the traditional Bangladeshi cuisine, pithas, and the rich cultural expressions of the Bangla New Year celebration.
