With the passage of time, the traditional game of rural Bengal, Hadudu, is becoming obsolete amid the excitement of modern sports.
To bring back the past tradition, Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the game in the Mirgram area of Joypurhat Sadar upazila Saturday morning.
The organisation’s Khetlal upazila unit arranged the 50-minute match where Mirgram Pashchimpara beat Mirgram Purbopara by 47-40 points.
After the match, Shuvosangho Khetlal unit President M Russel Ahmed handed over prizes to winning captain Abdur Rahman and runner-up captain Rahat Kibria.
Fazlur Rahman, an elderly man who came to watch the game, said, “After a long time, I got to watch the Hadudu game. I like it very much. Earlier, this game was often organised, while the present generation has never seen it.”
He thanked the organisers for the initiative.
Russel Ahmed said, Hadudu must be kept alive at any cost and the match was organised to keep the youth free from mobile addiction, drugs, terrorism, and militancy.
“Like every year, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has organised the game this year and will continue it in future as well,” he added.
