Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that the roadmap for the 13th National Parliament elections will be announced in July.
He informed this to the reporters at his office at the Election Building in Agargaon on Wednesday.
EC Anwarul said, “Young people who will complete 18 years of age before the schedule is announced will be included in the voter list. However, it will not be done through the existing law. For this, the law will be reviewed and amended. Such an initiative is being taken for the first time.”
Responding to a question about whether the election is possible with the existing law and order situation in the country, he said, “I have visited several districts. Law enforcement officials have said that it will improve further. Law and order is improving every day. You must have seen that the law and order situation is much better now than before. All steps will be taken for a fair election.”
The Election Commissioner also said that a self-contained and clean voter list is essential for a fair election. The Election Commission has completed the work of updating the voter list by going door to door. We are satisfied. Our target was to register 61 lakh 88 thousand new voters. It turns out that over 43 lakh voters who were left out have been registered. 19 lakh 66 thousand have been new. A total of 63 lakh voters have been registered. We hope to get the final voter list by June. Now the question is, many will turn 18 even before the schedule is announced. They also want to vote, and this time these young people will be new voters. The Election Commission will try its best to include those who will turn 18 before the schedule is announced in the voter list and they can vote.
