The High Court (HC) has overturned the conviction of Adilur Rahman Khan, the former secretary of the human rights organisation Odhikar, and incumbent Director ASM Nasir Uddin, in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
The single High Court bench of Justice Abdur Rab delivered this verdict on Thursday granting the appeal filed by Adilur and Nasir against the earlier ruling of the trial court, Daily Sun reports.
In a decade-old case, Adilur and Nasir were sentenced to two years in prison on September 14 of last year under Section 57 of the ICT Act by the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal.
In addition to the prison sentence, they were each fined Tk10 thousand with an additional one-month imprisonment in case of non-payment.
