Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued a press release with instructions to avoid using loud horns near residential areas and educational institutions. It also advised that motorcycles should carry no more than two people, including the driver, reports BSS.
DMP's traffic division has sought cooperation of all concerned in this regard.
Due to the unnecessary use of loud horns by motor vehicle drivers in Dhaka metropolis, pedestrians, passengers, drivers of other vehicles, city dwellers and especially the sick people are often facing serious health risks, the release stated.
To prevent these problems, motor vehicle drivers are requested not to use unnecessary and loud horns by following the provisions of Section 45 of the Road Transport Act-2018.
In addition, it is often observed in Dhaka metropolis that motorcycle drivers ride risky with multiple passengers, especially women and children, without using helmets and get into road accidents.
To avoid the risk of road accidents and loss of life, motorcyclists are requested to follow the provisions of Section 49 (1) Part 1 (f) of the Road Transport Act-2018 and not to carry more than two people including the driver and to ensure that the passenger wears a helmet.
After the publication of this notice, if any motor vehicle driver fails to comply with the instructions, appropriate legal action will be taken against him, the release alerted.
