World Autism Awareness Day is being observed in Bangladesh like other countries of the world on Sunday.
This year, the theme of the day is "Transformation: Toward a neuro-inclusive world for all."
To mark the day, the Ministry of Social Welfare organized a discussion and cultural program at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
While addressing the discussion, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said special children have been playing an important role to build a developed Bangladesh along with the mainstream society due to various pro-people programs of the government.
He said physically challenged people will have to be given special training to make them skilled.
Physicians at the discussion said it is not impossible to bring special children into normal life if their problem is identified at right time.
They also said that people with autism symptoms are not a burden to society.
Social Welfare Secretary Jahangir Alam presided over the function while State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru and Parliamentary standing committee chairman of the Social Welfare ministry Rashed Khan Menon, among others, were present.
Later a cultural program was held.
