Bangladesh has started the Test series against the West Indies with a heavy defeat, losing by 201 runs. Chasing a target of 334 in Antigua, the visitors managed to survive only 40 minutes on the fifth day. However, the match was almost decided the previous day when Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s team lost seven wickets for just 109 runs.
The fifth day was all about going with the flow as Bangladesh succumbed to their fifth consecutive Test defeat. Unsurprisingly, the blame for such a result largely falls on the batters. Yet, Jaker showed resilience in both innings, trying to steady the ship for his team.
In a video released by the BCB, Jaker Ali Anik reflected on the top order's failure from a different angle. The debutant batter highlighted the struggles against the new ball, saying, "We, as a batting unit, are not utilizing the new ball effectively. We are working on it. I hope someone from the top order will play a big innings in the next match."
Despite the team's loss, Jaker Ali scored 84 runs across two innings in the Antigua Test. Explaining his approach, he said, "My initial plan was to stay at the crease for as long as possible. I batted with that plan in mind. My focus was on playing one ball at a time and maintaining my concentration. Because there is a lot of swing and bounce here, my effort was to play as many balls as I could and adapt to the conditions."
Bangladesh’s captain for this series, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, also admitted the failure of the batters.
"We didn’t bat well in this match. We made some mistakes, but this is part of the game. Such things happen. We have a good opportunity to come back stronger before the next match. We need to improve and perform better in the upcoming game," said Mehidy
