The government has raised the power price once again by 5 per cent at the retail level which will come into effect on Wednesday (March 1).
The Power Division of the Ministry of Power Energy and Mineral Resources issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday.
The government has increased the electricity price three times since January this year.
In the new terrify, the average price of electricity will be Tk 8.21 per kilowatt hour, up from Tk 7.82 kWh.
The government recently amended the BERC Act empowering the Power Division to raise power, gas and petroleum fuel by administrative power anytime it wants.
Applying that amended Act, the new gazette notification was issued to raise the power tariff at bulk and retail levels, bypassing the authorities of the energy regulator.
