Kishoreganj is fully prepared with festivity and fanfare to welcome Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina as she is going to visit haor upazila Mithamoin tomorrow (Tuesday).
The Premier will also inaugurate Freedom Fighter Abdul Hamid Cantonment at Mithamoin in the morning.
She will address a public rally of Mithamoin Upazila Awami League in the afternoon. Prior to joining the rally, she will visit the native home of President Md Abdul Hamid at Kamalpur in the upazila, reports BSS.
Awami League leaders said the arrival of Sheikh Hasina has created much enthusiasm among the leaders and activists not only at Mithamoin of Kishoreganj but also in the entire haor region.
Briefing the reporters, lawmaker Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq said when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came here in 1998, two rickshaws were brought from Kishorganj for her movement to the public rally ground from the helipad.
"But she had to get down from the rickshaw after a while as it was not possible to move ahead riding on the rickshaw due to the dilapidated conditions of the road," he said.
"Road condition was this type of poor in that period," he said, adding that "The massive development which the Premier has carried out in the last 14 years is beyond our imagination."
Taufiq, also the son of the President, said the people of the haor region do not remain deprived any more as huge development works were made in the region including bridges, culverts and all-weather roads.
Once the elevated highway over the water bodies in Kishoreganj is implemented, the scenario of haor region will get changed.
"The people of Kishoreganj are enthusiastically waiting to welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. People from the entire district and other regions will join the rally to see Sheikh Hasina. The people of the haor region are really indebted to the Premier as she made massive progress in the region," he said.
Colourful arches and gates have been constructed on various roads in the upazila with posters and banners of the prime minister to welcome her.
Leaders have put up billboards, banners, balloons, festoons and posters welcoming the prime minister.
