Mahbubul Alam of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been elected president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex trade body of Bangladesh, for the tenure of 2023-25.
He will replace incumbent president of FBCCI Md Jasimuddin.
Election to the posts of President, senior Vice-President and six Vice-Presidents were held at the FBCCI office in the capital's Motijheel area on Wednesday.
Election Board Chairman A Matin Chowdhury announced the names of the new office bearers of the FBCCI.
Mahbubul Alam, chairman of M Alam Group, is currently serving as the president of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI). He hails from Gohira village under Raojan upazila in Chattogram. Mahbubul obtained his degree from Chattogram University and was involved in student politics.
Previously, he was the president of Khatoonganj Trade Association for several terms and also served as senior vice-president and vice-president of the CCCI.
Md Amin Helaly representing the Bangladesh Pathya Pustak Mudrak-O-Biponon Samity has been elected as senior vice-president.
The six other elected vice presidents are: Khairul Huda Chopol (Sunamganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarker (Gazipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry), and Joshoda Jibon Deb Nath (Bangladesh Chamber of Industries) from the chamber group, and Shomi Kaiser (E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh), Rashadul Hossain Chowdhury Ronni (Maize Association of Bangladesh) and Md Munir Hossain (Exporters Association of Bangladesh) from the association group.
Earlier, election of the FBCCI association group held on July 31, the Sammilito Baboshayee Parishad panel clinched 15 posts of directors while another panel Baboshayee Oikko Parishad bagged 8 posts.
