Mahfuj Alam, one of the key coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and adviser to the interim government, has said that recklessness, provocation, creating divisions and conflicts among students and youth, and attempts to turn the forces of the uprising reactionary—these will all be thwarted.
He made these remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday.
In his Facebook post titled “Popular Uprising and Anti-Youth Forces,” Mahfuj Alam said: “The history of the ten to fifteen years following the Liberation War is the history of freedom fighters killing each other. Those who did not want Bangladesh to stand on a strong foundation had the freedom fighters kill one another. While they were not without their own faults, the repeated killings of our freedom fighters set Bangladesh back, and history will one day tell how.”
He continued: “The movement of this time is a people's movement led by courageous students and youth. But a political party and some opportunistic domestic and foreign elements have vilified the students in the last three months, divided them through various student organizations, pitted another youth group against them, and most importantly, have not dealt with the students respectfully, instead treating them as enemies. What is the outcome of this, or what will it be?”
Mahfuj Alam emphasized: “We must remember that foreign forces have no power to subjugate the people of this country. However, there are some traitors and reckless elements with a colonial mindset who do have such power. They have demonstrated this over the past three months.”
He added: “By pushing students to the point of conflict and potentially killing them, anyone who benefits from creating a crisis in the students' legitimacy will be involved in this provocation and administrative failure. Gradually, we will reveal everything. Or, you will see it for yourselves if you open your eyes.”
Mahfuj Alam further mentioned: “Certain leaders or individuals with left-wing and right-wing mentalities have gone mad because they could not secure their share in the government during the popular uprising and afterward. Their madness, revolutionary zeal, and provocative actions have destabilized the country.”
He concluded, “Recklessness, provocation, creating divisions and conflicts among students and youth, and attempts to turn the forces of the uprising reactionary—these will all be thwarted, InshaAllah.”
At the end of his post, Mahfuj Alam said: “We are moving towards unity like the morning of August 5. This organizational unity will create long-lasting opportunities for liberation, InshaAllah.”
