Newly-appointed Election Commissioner (EC) Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said they have no alternative to hold a fair national poll.
“I have introduced myself to the officials of the election commission after taking oath. We have discussed the situation when the interim government was formed. We discussed what we wanted as per the expectations of the nation. Our expectation is very simple. It is a fair election,” he said.
Sanaullah came up with the assertion while briefing journalists after exchanging views with the election commission officials at the Election Commission Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Monday (November 25).
He said, “The New Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has instructed the officials of the commission to perform their duty accordingly. Integrity, honesty, and accountability were discussed in the meeting.”
When asked about challenges, the CEC said, “We think more than the challenges. We think this is an opportunity. Of course, there are challenges. We have come here to face these challenges. We are saying that this is the opportunity as the nation is crossing a critical time where we have no alternative to hold a fair election. Allah (God) has sent us to deliver the expectations of the people. We are confident that we can deliver this. We are committed to doing this.”
“This is not only a duty. This is our responsibility. Inshallah, we will fulfil the responsibility. We feel proud that we have been appointed through a clear process,” Sanaullah continued.
