A fire that broke out at Building 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital early Thursday has been doused after six hours of efforts.
Fire service media cell inspector Anwarul Islam said the fire was extinguished around 8:05 am.
Earlier, at a press conference, Director General (DG) of the Directorate of Fire Services and Civil Defence Brigadier General Muhammad Zaheed Kamal said the cause of the fire could not be confirmed yet.
Asked why it took so long to bring the fire under control, he said that it was a confined and restricted area. All the rooms were locked, and the windows were sealed.
"We had to break in and spray water in the rooms," Zaheed Kamal said.
The firefighters tried to prevent the fire from spreading further and also minimize damage, he added.
The fire broke out at Building 7 of the Secretariat in the capital at 1:52 am on Thursday.
