A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced one man to death and four others to life imprisonment in connection with the killing of Taslima Begum Renu by a mob in the capital’s Badda in July 2019.
Ibrahim alias Hridoy Mollah received the death penalty, while Abul Kalam Azad, Kamal Hossain, Asadul Islam, and Hriya Begum Moyna were sentenced to life imprisonment, equating to 30 years in prison.
Judge Mohammad Morshed Alam of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in Dhaka delivered the verdict in a packed courtroom, with all the convicts present.
The judge also imposed a fine of Tk 1 lakh on each. In default, they have to serve an additional one year in prison.
