Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç lauded the International Criminal Court's (ICC) issuance of an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The warrants were issued for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity tied to Israel's Gaza offensive and the October 2023 incursion.
In a post on X, Kurtulmuş described the decision as a "historic step" challenging Israel’s long-standing immunity. He called the warrant a reflection of humanity's solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people, expressing hope that justice and conscience would eventually prevail over Israel’s "oppression and barbarity." Kurtulmuş also urged the suspension of Israel's United Nations membership until it complies with U.N. Security Council resolutions.
Justice Minister Tunç emphasized the urgency of holding Israeli authorities accountable, accusing them of systematically massacring Palestinians, including women and children, and displacing millions. He labeled the ICC’s action as a long-overdue step toward ending the bloodshed in Palestine.
“Democracies and international bodies committed to human rights must act decisively to ensure that those responsible for these atrocities face justice,” Tunç said. He reaffirmed Türkiye's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, vowing continued efforts until Palestinians achieve freedom and dignity in their homeland.
