Sheikh Md Sazzad Ali officially assumed the role of the 38th commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) this Thursday morning.
The information was shared via a brief message from the Police Headquarters. He has been appointed on a contractual basis for a two-year term.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Wednesday confirming his appointment.
With this appointment, Sheikh Sazzad Ali succeeds former commissioner Md Mainul Hassan.
Born in the Shailkupa Upazila of Jhenaidah District, Ali began his career in 1984 by joining the BCS Police cadre. Over the years, he has held various positions within the police force, including Deputy Police Commissioner of Tejgaon Division in DMP and Superintendent of Police in Lakshmipur District.
He later served as DIG of Chattogram and Dhaka ranges, DIG of Highway Police, and Additional IGP at the Police Headquarters. During the Awami League government, he lost his job, but on August 5, the interim government reinstated him on November 17 with a notification dated September 3, 2016.
Prior to this, he was serving as a member of the Police Reform Commission.
