If you're torn between the convenience of a smart ring and the functionality of a smartwatch, Casio’s new CRW-001-1JR offers the best of both worlds. This innovative device combines the features of a smartwatch with the compact form of a ring, worn around your finger rather than your wrist.
However, getting your hands on one might be tricky, as the Casio CRW-001-1JR is currently set to be available exclusively in Japan. Priced at 19,800 yen (approximately $130 / £100 / AU$200), the wearable has been launched in celebration of Casio's 50th anniversary of smartwatches.
While stylish, the CRW-001-1JR leans more towards being a fashion accessory than a fully functional smartwatch. It lacks features like fitness tracking or smartphone notification syncing, making it more about aesthetics than practical tech use.
The Casio CRW-001-1JR may be compact, but it offers a few handy features beyond just its unique design. The device can display the time in two locations, includes a stopwatch function, and allows users to set alarms for specific times. Casio has also added a small LED light for convenience.
The CRW-001-1JR is available in one size, equivalent to a US ring size 10.5, though spacers are included to provide a better fit for smaller fingers. Unlike the Timex T80, which offers an adjustable strap, this model does not have that feature.
Designed as a tribute to the classic Casio GMW-B5000 smartwatch, the CRW-001-1JR is crafted from stainless steel and features three functional buttons to control its features. Weighing in at 16 grams, it is heavier than devices like the Samsung Galaxy Ring, which weighs just 3 grams.
The wearable is marketed as "waterproof for daily use" and is powered by a replaceable battery that is expected to last up to two years.
The Casio CRW-001-1JR certainly stands out as a unique offering, potentially marking the beginning of a new product category. Set to go on sale in early December, the wearable will be available in Japan—though it appears that stock will be limited, even for local buyers.
