The Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) has banned flying drones within a two-kilometer radius of the Bishwa Ijtema ground to ensure security and maintain law and order, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The directive was issued on Sunday through a public notice signed by GMP Police Commissioner Dr Nazmul Karim Khan.
According to the notice, Bishwa Ijtema is currently underway, drawing millions of devotees from home and abroad.
To safeguard the event, drone use in and around the Ijtema ground is prohibited without approval from the police's special branch (CTSB) until February 18. Violators will face legal action.
The decision follows an incident during the first phase’s concluding prayers when two drones crashed near the Ijtema ground and Tongi Station Road, causing panic among devotees and injuring nearly 50 people
