Bangladesh and Japan have signed the "exchange of notes" on the Japanese grant aid for a project for the improvement of equipment for air pollution monitoring with an amount up to JPY 835 million (about USD 5 million), reports UNB.
In this project, equipment for air pollution monitoring is to be set up to enhance the capacity to measure and analyse air pollutants derived mainly from vehicle emissions in the capital city Dhaka and Chattogram, thereby contributing to enhancing air pollution control capacity.
Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Ikuina Akiko witnessed the signing ceremony where Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi and Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, signed the document on Monday.
“Under the ‘Strategic Partnership’, Japan will continue its cooperation for the development and prosperity of Bangladesh for the peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the international society, and to further develop bilateral relations,” said Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina.
Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Khayrul Hasan also witnessed the ceremony.
Based on this exchange of notes between the two counties, ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, and Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed a relevant grant agreement.
