The United States and El Salvador have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance peaceful nuclear cooperation. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and El Salvador’s Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco formalized the agreement on Monday, marking a step towards strengthening their partnership in civil nuclear energy.
According to a statement, the MoU aims to enhance energy security, expand economic cooperation, and uphold high standards of nuclear safety, security, and nonproliferation. This agreement builds on the long-standing diplomatic ties between the two nations, which have collaborated extensively in security, energy, and commerce.
The initiative follows a diplomatic framework first introduced during President Trump’s administration. Such agreements are designed to deepen strategic relationships while promoting U.S. industry and workforce development. By engaging in civil nuclear cooperation, both countries seek to foster mutual prosperity and reinforce their commitment to international nuclear safety standards.
