Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Moscow later this week for discussions on the ongoing nuclear talks with the United States. This follows a series of high-level talks held in Muscat, Oman, on Saturday, where Araghchi met U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. These discussions marked the highest-level nuclear negotiations between Iran and the U.S. since the 2015 nuclear deal collapsed.
Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed that Araghchi’s trip to Moscow was pre-planned and would provide an opportunity to address the latest developments from the Muscat talks. Both Iran and the U.S. described the talks as "constructive." During his visit, Araghchi is expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other senior Russian officials.
This diplomatic visit follows a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging nuclear talks and warning of potential military action if Iran refuses. Russia has expressed its support for diplomatic engagement, warning that military confrontation would lead to a "global catastrophe."
As negotiations continue, the next round of talks between Iran and the U.S. is scheduled for April 19, 2025. These discussions will be pivotal in shaping the future of Iran’s nuclear program and its relationship with the global powers.
