ANM Mamunur Rashid will prepare the men's national hockey team for their campaign in the upcoming seventh Men's AHF Cup 2025.
The Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) on Monday appointed the veteran as the coach of the team's preparational camp which will begin at the end of this month.
“We selected him (Mamunur) among 8-10 candidates as we found him more eligible for the men's team considering all aspects,” BHF ad hoc committee general secretary Lt Col (retd) Md Reazul Islam told the reporters.
The BHF also appointed Mashiur Rahman Biplob as his deputy and Alamgir Islam as trainer.
The Men's AHF Cup is scheduled to be held on 17-27 April in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The camp will begin after a fitness test which is expected to be held on 20 February.
“We do not have enough time. We have to be prepared for the event within a short period of time and of course, we are aiming to be the champions,” said Mamunur who last coached the national team in 2015.
Bangladesh have been dominating this regional competition as the champions for the last four editions.
They beat Oman by 6-1, 6-3, and 1(5)-1(3) goals in the finals of 2008, 2012, and 2022 editions and Sri Lanka by 3-0 goals in the final of 2016 edition.
