Hannan Sarkar, former national opener and current member of the national selection panel, has decided to quit his post after completing his tenure. It comes after Sarkar wants to pursue a career in cricket coaching, reports Cricbuzz.
He served an official letter to the board citing his desire to step down from the high profile role on February 1.
Hannan admitted the development, adding that he wished to complete his tenure that ends on February 26.
"Yes, I have handed them (board) the letter yesterday to step down from the selection committee," Hannan told the media on Sunday.
“I wish to have a career in coaching, and as a result don't want to continue as part of national selection panel,” he said.
“If BCB [Bangladesh Cricket Board] feels that they can include me in as a coach in their set-up, in that case, I am ready to consider it,” he added.
The 42-year old had represented Bangladesh in 17 Tests and 20 ODIs during his short two-year international career. He later joined BCB as an age-level selector where he worked for nearly a decade as an U-19 selector, and Bangladesh won the U-19 World Cup in 2020 during his tenure.
The Under-19 squad won their first Asia Cup too while he was at the job back in 2024, and his success at the age level of cricket earned him a spot in the senior level.
