BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed strong condemnation, protest, deep shock and sorrow over the death of an eight-year-old child who was raped in Magura.
In a statement, the BNP Acting Chairman said, "The brutal death of Asiya has saddened me as much as the countrymen. The entire country is stunned by the news of her death. This death cannot be accepted in any way."
He said, "This incident has ashamed the people of the whole country. A storm of protest against the brutal incident that happened to Asiya has erupted from cities to villages. The roads have been heated with processions and slogans. At the same time, everyone was praying for her return."
In the statement, the BNP Acting Chairman said, "After Thursday afternoon, when the news came from CMH, people are condemning the human villains in grief and anger. After I initially learned about this incident and announced to provide her medical treatment and legal assistance.”
“During the past fascist regime, the same incidents are being repeated in the country without bringing the rapists to justice and rewarding them in various ways. Due to the long trial process, the rapists are being saved repeatedly through loopholes in the law. As a result, the level of rape is increasing day by day. It is unimaginable that in this modern era, mankind can indulge in such inhuman, demonic and barbaric acts. Rape is not only a crime, but also an extreme blow against humanity and a terrible picture of the moral degradation of society. The brutal and barbaric incidents that are happening in our society have called into question the fundamental basis of humanity and morality. We see that rape incidents do not stop even in the holy month of Ramadan. People from all walks of life must come forward to prevent the ongoing oppression, harassment and heinous acts of rape against women and children in different parts of the country.”
Tarique Rahman said, “Since the August 5 mass uprising, people no longer expect incidents like harassment, rape or rape threats against women. Even then, these incidents continue to happen. Any kind of violence or harassment against women, girls and children is a clear violation of human rights. So I urge the relevant authorities of the government to play a responsible role in ensuring the safety and dignity of women and children. In addition, a comprehensive child protection system must be created to ensure safe movement, civil liberties and digital security for women and children. The victims and their families must be provided with maximum legal protection. Ensuring exemplary punishment for such crimes is very important for establishing peace and justice in society. This incident is not only corrupting the current society, but is also setting a terrible example for future generations. Measures must be taken so that no one dares to commit such crimes in the future.”
Tarique Rahman prayed for the departed soul of Asia and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members, relatives, and well-wishers.
