Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that left-arm pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on Wednesday (March 12).
PRP treatment involves injecting a concentrated amount of a patient’s own platelets into an injured or problematic area to stimulate healing, reduce inflammation, and potentially speed up tissue repair while alleviating pain.
The left-arm pacer was administered the injection in his left shoulder, which had previously undergone surgery and has been causing occasional discomfort.
“He (Mustafizur) received a PRP injection and will need some rest before returning to the field. He doesn’t have any new injuries, but the left shoulder, which was operated on earlier, sometimes causes problems, though he manages to play through it,” a BCB official said. It has been reported that Mustafizur is expected to make his return to competitive cricket in the ongoing Bashundhara Dhaka Premier League (BDPL) after the upcoming Eid ul-Fitr.
There is speculation that the left-arm pacer may choose to continue playing for Prime Bank Cricket Club, where he played last year.
“Let’s see when he gets fit, and if we can fit him within our budget, we’ll certainly go for him,” said an official from Prime Bank.
