After battling for her life, Asiya, an eight-year-old child who was a victim of abuse in Magura, has finally passed away. Despite the desperate efforts of doctors from four different hospitals, she succumbed on Thursday afternoon. Asiya breathed her last at 1:00 PM at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
On Thursday afternoon, Asiya’s body was flown by helicopter to Magura Stadium, where her funeral prayer(Janaza) was held at ‘Nomani Maidan’. Later, after the Maghrib prayer, she was laid to rest in the cemetery of Sonaikundi village in Sreepur.
Grief has gripped Asiya’s home and the entire area of Magura. Her mentally unstable father remains speechless, while her mother, siblings, and other relatives are crying uncontrollably.
When visiting Asiya’s village in Jaria, Sreepur, on Thursday afternoon, it was observed that people were gathering at her home after hearing the news of her death.
Local Sabdalpur Union Chairman Panna Khatun said, "Our only demand is the death penalty for Hitu Sheikh and the other three accused."
The collective voice of the community echoes one demand – capital punishment for the rapists and an expedited judicial process without any delays.
Meanwhile, the house where Asiya was abused has now been identified by the locals as "rapist Hitu Sheikh’s house," and it remains deserted.
The owner of the house Hitu Sheikh, his wife, and their two sons are all in jail.
