In front of the joint secretary, the students demanded that a complete outline be formulated for the conversion of Titumir College into a university within the next 7 days. In response, the secretary assured that work will be done on the issues.
The students said that they are suspending the protest for seven days.
“If we do not see effective progress in implementing the assurances given by the ministry, we will join the protest again next week,” they added.
Later, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Education, Md. Nuruzzaman and the principal of the college, Professor Shipra Rani Mandal, broke the hunger strike by feeding the students juices.
Incidentally, the students of the institution have been raising movement for a long time demanding the conversion of the government Titumir College into a university. Various programs including processions, road and railway blockades, submission of memorandums, and class boycotts have been held in support of this demand. In view of which, a special committee was formed by the Ministry of Education to examine the feasibility. However, recently, after not receiving any positive response in this regard, the students announced to hold various programs including a hunger strike to death from January 29 to achieve their demands.
