The European Union (EU) has emphasized the need for a strong, impartial, and efficient judiciary in Bangladesh to safeguard fundamental rights and promote transparency.
“A strong, impartial and efficient judiciary is essential for protecting fundamental rights, ensuring accountability, promoting transparency, and building public trust,” said a Facebook post by the European Union in Bangladesh on Monday.
The EU is Bangladesh’s long standing partner and is supporting judicial reforms such as those put forward by the Supreme Court, said the Facebook post.
An image of the meeting held between Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and EU Ambassador Michael Miller on January 30 last was shared in the Facebook post.
The EU thanked the Chief Justice for discussing with the EU Ambassador judicial independence, capacity building for judges and lawyers, access to justice and the digitalisation of the justice system.
