The National Sports Council on Thursday announced that they have formed a three-member fact finding committee to investigate payment issues in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament.
The ongoing BPL has been marred by unprecedented non-payment issues, with franchises like Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings failing to clear player dues on time.
The financial irregularities have raised serious concerns about the league's credibility and management, tarnishing the reputation of both the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and BPL.
The controversy has also cast a shadow over Bangladesh’s standing in global cricket, as such issues deter top international players from participating in future editions.
In response to growing criticism and extensive media reports on the crisis, the National Sports Council (NSC) has stepped in to investigate.
The NSC stressed that failure to honour contractual agreements not only affects players financially but also brings reputational damage to the league and the country’s cricketing structure.
To address the situation, the council has formed a Fact-Finding Committee, which will examine the payment disputes and irregularities surrounding BPL 2025.
The three-member committee comprises the NSC director (sports) Humayun Kabir, assistant director (sports) Sajia Afrin and the NSC chairman's private secretary Saiful Islam. The committee will have seven days to submit its report
