Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Shariatpur have campaigned for raising awareness among drivers and people from different classes about traffic rules to curb road accidents.
The district unit Shuvosangho conducted the hours-long campaign titled “Refrain from saving time by taking risks, return to family in good health,” in the town’s Court area.
Alongside, the members of one of the largest social welfare organisations in the country greeted the drivers – who drove their vehicles carrying valid documents and abiding by rules and regulations – with flowers.
Receiving an awareness leaflet and flower, motorcyclist Md Atiqur Rahman Sohel said, “I appreciate this initiative taken by Bashundhara Shuvosangho. I am very happy as the organisation members greeted me for obeying the traffic laws.
“In fact, we should become aware of this issue as the number of road accidents will not drop only by launching an awareness campaign by Shuvosangho, carrying out duties by traffic police, or filing cases. Each life is valuable and we must not be the cause of the deaths of other people.”
Sohel added, “We must follow traffic rules, including refraining from driving at excessive speed and unnecessary honking.”
Shariatpur district unit Shuvosangho Adviser and Kaler Kantho district correspondent Shariful Alam Emon, President Mizanur Rahman Molla, Vice-President Harun-or-Rashid, General Secretary Firoz Sardar, Finance Secretary Md Rimon Dhali, Office Secretary Omar Bin Ali, Publicity Secretary Shahin Alam, and member Kabirul Alam Monir, cultural activist Murad Munshi, Traffic Sergeant Kallol Kumar Bhattacharya, TSI Chunnu Molla, and Constable Shahidul were present on the occasion.
Traffic Sergeant Kallol Kumar said, “Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed awareness leaflets today [Tuesday]. Besides, they also greeted drivers with flowers. It is an excellent initiative. Hopefully, they will continue various social and humanitarian activities in future as well.”
