Rows of various tree saplings, including fruit and medicinal plants, were lined up, and the only requirement to receive them was plastic items, with no money needed.
This unique initiative was carried out by the members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Dinajpur Government College branch on Friday.
Shuvosangho members brought along recycled plastic items, such as pen holders and flower pots, which they had made from plastic waste to raise awareness about plastic recycling and environmental conservation.
After cleaning the campus, they distributed the saplings of fruit and medicinal plants to students and visitors.
Speaking at the event, Mohammad Yasir Arafat Rafi, joint general secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho central committee, said, “Through plastic recycling, we can significantly improve our environment. Recycling plastic is an excellent way to protect the environment. I encourage everyone to separate different types of plastic so that those can be easily recycled. This will help keep our campus, city, country and our environment clean. Such initiatives to raise awareness about plastic are commendable.”
Md Swapan Ali, president of Dinajpur Government College branch of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, said, “Every day, thousands of tons of plastic waste end up in the oceans. Plastic is also destroying canals and rivers. That’s why raising awareness about the use of plastic items is crucial. Without this, we won’t be able to protect the environment. If we don’t save the environment, we won’t survive. Our activities in this regard will continue.”
