Ram Gopal Varma has released a video featuring an engaging conversation with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, where the two filmmakers both challenge and compliment each other.
Ram Gopal Varma and Sandeep Reddy Vanga appear to share a strong mutual admiration. While Varma lauded Vanga's hit family crime drama Animal, Vanga recently credited Varma as a major inspiration while receiving an award for Best Editing. The two filmmakers recently sat down for an intriguing conversation where they both challenged and praised each other.
Ram Gopal Varma put Sandeep Reddy Vanga on the spot during their conversation, asking, “I'm asking you a question. You should answer immediately without a pause. Okay? Can you make a film on Baahubali?” Sandeep paused for a couple of seconds, grinned, and pointed at Varma before replying, “I'll try, sir. Maybe, in the future.” Varma, amused by the hesitation, quickly reprimanded him, saying, “Arey, that is not the correct answer. You should say either yes or no.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga continued to hesitate, sticking with his answer of “I’ll try,” but Ram Gopal Varma wasn’t having it. “Sandeep, that is not correct. You can’t be diplomatic,” he scolded. When Sandeep finally relented and said his “immediate” answer was no, Varma pressed further, asking, “Okay, he says no. So my next question is, can you make a better film than Baahubali?” Sandeep repeated, “I’ll try,” prompting Varma to laugh, shake his hand, and declare, “No trying. It’s done! The answer has come. Superb.”
The veteran filmmaker continued his probing, asking Sandeep Reddy Vanga what would happen if his cult 1990 action film Shiva (starring Nagarjuna) and Sandeep's 2017 blockbuster Arjun Reddy (starring Vijay Deverakonda) were to release on the same day. When Sandeep picked Shiva, Ram Gopal Varma insisted that the director was being modest and diplomatic. To return the compliment, Sandeep challenged Varma to create another great film so that the audience would say, "RGV is RGV," rather than just "RGV is back."
