Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) Director General Dr Abul Kalam Azad said on Monday that there is no alternative to protecting arable land to ensure food security, reports UNB.
“Arable land is gradually decreasing in the country, and the challenge of food security is growing,” he said while addressing the regional workshop as the chief guest.
The workshop, titled Expansion of High-Yielding and Popular Varieties Suitable for the Cumilla Region and Their Inclusion in Cropping Patterns, was held at the BINA Sub-Center Cumilla and the Department of Agricultural Extension Cumilla region.
He further said, “We must increase the cultivation of high-yielding varieties of rice, vegetables, oilseeds, and pulses. Additionally, food security can be ensured through multiple cropping.”
The workshop was presided over by Md. Azizur Rahman, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Cumilla.
