The trial of the suspended assistant commissioner Taposhi Tabassum Urmi of Lalmonirhat district administration has begun.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah ordered the commencement of the trial by framing charges against her on Tuesday.
The accused Taposhi Tabassum Urmi appeared before the court in person. Her lawyer submitted a petition seeking dismissal of the charges.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered the charges to be framed under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
On 8 October last year, Abu Hanif, a senior member of the Gono Odhikar Parishad and media coordinator, filed a defamation case against Urmi.
According to the case statement, while holding a responsible government position, Urmi made derogatory remarks on Facebook on 5 October 2024, against Shaheed Abu Sayeed and the Nobel Laureate Chief Adviser of the government Professor Muhammad Yunus.
