The Israeli military has conducted fresh deadly airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, killing a total of 40 people, including Salah al-Bardawil, a Palestinian MP and member of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement, Press TV reported.
In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas said Bardawil was targeted in a "treacherous Zionist assassination" operation, while he was performing his night prayers on the 23rd night of the holy month of Ramadan.
Bardawil, it added, was killed alongside his wife in an Israeli aerial assault that targeted his tent in the al-Mawasi area, west of the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis.
Hamas also hailed Bardawil as a "symbol of political, media, and national work," noting that he "never failed to perform his duties or ... jihad (endeavor for the sake of God)" aimed at promoting the Palestinian cause.
The resistance movement further emphasized that the criminal regime will not weaken the Palestinians' resolve and steadfastness as "with every martyr, the flame of resistance grows stronger until the occupation is ended."
