The newly formed political party, National Citizen Party (NCP), launched its workers' wing and announced a 161-member coordinator committee.
Mazharul Islam Fakir has been appointed as the Chief Coordinator, and Mosharraf Hossain Swapan, a motor worker, has been appointed as the Joint Coordinator.
They made the announcement at a press conference at the NCP's temporary central office at Rupayan Tower, Banglamotor.
According to the NCP, "Since the colonial era, the working class has been fighting for their basic human rights. Even after 54 years of Bangladesh's independence, the fundamental rights of workers are still not secured. They continue to fight for fair wages, a safe working environment, and social protection."
The party further stated, "In the July uprising, many workers were martyred alongside students and the public. Their sacrifice continues to inspire our journey. The hopes and aspirations with which the working class participated in the July uprising are the driving force behind our new initiative to form a new workers' organization."
The party finally stated, "The main goal of our organization will be to protect workers' rights, ensure their welfare through appropriate policies, and strengthen their voice nationally by involving them in politics. To organize workers effectively, we are announcing a coordinator committee that will strengthen the organization across the country and work in the interests of the workers."
