The interim government wants to move forward by embracing the spirit of the great Liberation War and the July Uprising to build a just society and establish the rule of law, said Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Chief Advisor said this in a message on Monday, on the occasion of March 25, the 'Genocide Day'.
He said, “The Bangladesh that we wanted after independence, people did not have any fundamental rights in that Bangladesh during the fallen dictator’s regime.”
He also said that the nation was freed from the tyranny of the autocrats due to the heroism of the students and the people in the July Uprising.
Professor Yunus said, “On March 25, 1971, the Pakistani occupying forces carried out the world's most barbaric massacre in Dhaka and throughout the country. I remember with a sorrowful heart all the martyrs of that black night. The nation is still grieving over this hellish massacre.”
Dr. Muhammad Yunus further said, "When Bangladesh was in the throes of the March 1971 movement, on the evening of March 25, during the Non-Cooperation Movement, dictator Yahya secretly left Dhaka. At midnight that day, Pakistani soldiers conducted Operation Searchlight and carried out the most brutal massacre in history on sleeping and unarmed people."
He said, "Thousands of innocent people, including students, teachers, police and army personnel, were martyred in the ambush attacks of the invading forces equipped with sophisticated weapons across the country, including Dhaka University, Peelkhana, and Rajarbagh area. Because of their sacrifices, we have achieved the desired independence through a long, bloody war of liberation that lasted 9 months."
The Chief Advisor said, "The new Bangladesh will develop as a strong, peaceful and democratic country."
He prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs on the night of March 25.
