Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Monday handed over a cheque of financial assistance to Mokbul Hossain, the father of Abu Sayed, a martyr of the July-August uprising.
Abu Sayed, a student of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University, was martyred in police firing during the anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur on 16 July last year. His sacrifice inspired the July fighters to overthrow the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
In addition to the financial assistance provided by the army, Abu Sayed's father suffered a sudden heart attack on 10 December last year.
He was airlifted from Rangpur to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka by an army helicopter, where he later recovered after receiving treatment.
On 23 March, Mokbul Hossain attended an iftar mahfil at the invitation of the Army chief, organised in honour of those injured in the July-August uprising.
