Banks will remain closed for nine consecutive days from 28 March to 5 April due to the Eid holidays.
However, to facilitate the payment of wages for workers in the garment sector, the Bangladesh Bank has instructed certain bank branches in garment industrial areas to remain open on 28 and 29 March.
These areas include Dhaka city, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Valuka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram.
The central bank issued a circular on Monday in this regard.
According to the circular, the government has declared 3 April a public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, and all scheduled bank branches and sub-branches will remain closed on that day.
As per the circular, on Friday, 28 March, bank branches must remain open from 10am to 3pm, with transactions permitted between 10am and 12pm. On Saturday, 29 March, branches should remain open from 10am to 2pm, with transactions allowed between 10am and 1pm. The branches that remain open during this period are required to ensure adequate security. Additionally, officers and employees working during the holiday period must be compensated in accordance with regulations.
The circular also stated that branches, sub-branches, and booths of banks located in seaports, land ports, and airports will remain open 24 hours a day.
From 28 March to 5 April (excluding Eid day), to ensure the continuation of import-export activities, local administration, port, and customs authorities must coordinate and take necessary actions in consultation with the banks.
