Advisor to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and Commerce Sheikh Bashir Uddin said we want to make jute bags easily available and at a low price in the market.
“Its advantage is that these bags can be reused, are cost-effective and environmentally friendly. You play a role in making its marketing easier. I would like to ask you for advice on how to market these bags more, determination of it’s size so that I can use your advice," the advisor said.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organized by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon, with the presidents/editors of various markets in Dhaka metropolis, to ensure the use of jute bags instead of polythene.
Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin also said, "I want you to produce jute bags and you to be traders. We are implementing the issue of introducing jute bags and the government is working towards this goal. Government is taking initiative to make jute bags easily available in the market.”
During the exchange of views, representatives of the markets spoke about ensuring the supply of jute bags and the demand for bags at low prices. At the same time, they expressed their opinion to prevent the production of polythene bags.
The president of Uttarbadda Kitchen Market, Haji Abdul Halim, said that the supply of bags of different sizes should be provided. For this, if you have a dealer, it will be easier to get them (jute bags).
The chairman of the meeting, secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Md. Abdur Rouf, said , “The Ministry of Textiles and Jute is taking an initiative to introduce jute bags as an alternative to polythene nationwide in order to implement the 'Compulsory Use of Jute Packaging in Products Act-2010'. To that end, we are working on the instructions of the advisor.”
