Bangladesh Bank (BB) has issued new guidelines to increase student participation in school banking activities.
From now on, every bank branch at the district, upazila, or union level must select at least one educational institution in the area to offer school banking facilities to students.
The Financial Inclusion Department of the central bank on Sunday issued a circular in this regard.
Students must be offered technical education through this initiative, enabling them to directly access various banking services from the branch.
According to the circular, bank branches must select at least one educational institution at the district, upazila, or union level to carry out school banking activities. Banks are allowed to independently choose the educational institution. They must take initiatives to open and manage accounts, provide financial education, and raise awareness among students to enhance their technical skills.
As per the guidelines, each bank branch must submit a quarterly report on the progress of school banking activities to the relevant office of Bangladesh Bank. The report should include the number of bank branches and educational institutions involved, the number of student accounts, transaction information, and details of financial education activities.
In addition, all guidelines issued by Bangladesh Bank from time to time must be strictly followed.
