Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has called upon Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) to develop eco-friendly products using betel nut leaves, bamboo and canes as alternatives to single-use plastics.
She said this in a meeting with BFIDC officials at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Sunday.
Rizwana stressed the need for importing high-quality rubber tree clones to increase production.
The government has taken initiatives to supply affordable, sustainable, and modern-designed furniture, she said.
BFIDC, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is being modernized to implement the initiative, she said adding to modernize the BFIDC, its limitations should be identified first.
All furniture designs and plans of the corporation are being revised to allow customers to order furniture in their preferred designs, the adviser added.
