BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Sunday said the people will not tolerate the excuse of delaying the elections.
"Although the tenure of the current interim government has exceeded 6 months, this government is not announcing a specific date for the national elections. Long delays in the name of reforms are not desirable under any circumstances,” he said.
He said this at a prayer and iftar mahfil organized by Bhashani Anusari Parishad in honor of various political parties at the White House Hotel in Shantinagar in the capital. Under the chairmanship of Bhashani Anusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Jatiya Party (Kazi Jafar) chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Hoq, Mass Solidarity Movement Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki, JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, Gono Forum general secretary advocate Subrata Chowdhury, BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Jagpa (Party) President Khandaker Lutfar Rahman and others also spoke on the occasion.
Rafiqul Islam Khan thanked the guests and said that the current law and order situation in the country is deeply worrisome. Extortion, robbery, and murder in broad daylight are now commonplace. On the other hand, the rise in commodity prices has made public life miserable. Without an elected government, there is no way to get out of such a situation.
He demanded the immediate announcement of the election date.
