Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday sought the support of the United Nations (UN) to combat misinformation.
"We need your blessings, we need your support, particularly in one thing — misinformation that is killing us," he said.
He made the appeal at an iftar party hosted at the InterContinental Dhaka hotel in honor of visiting United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, reports BSS.
Prof Yunus said people work hard to make a dream come true, but some do not like it. "Protect us from misinformation, and we can do the rest," he added.
Regarding national unity, the chief adviser said that the unity students created among all segments of the population in the country is unique.
He noted that while people in the country may disagree on many things, they all agree on one goal — "We want to create a New Bangladesh. We have no difference in that regard."
Terming the recent student protest a historic one, Prof Yunus said the students did not have weapons, only their lives.
However, he said, they rose in protest to claim their freedom, reclaim their nation, and stand on their own feet. "It is our New Bangladesh."
Speaking about the UN chief’s visit to Bangladesh, he said it brought immense joy to the nation.
"We are halfway through Ramadan, but your visit has started Eid earlier this time. You made Eid begin now with your visit," the chief adviser said.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also spoke on the occasion.
