Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan said there’s no security threat for upcoming Durga Puja.
He said, “No drug or drug-like products will be allowed in mandap area, immersion procession and time of immersion. In addition, people are requested to avoid all kinds of fireworks during the festival.”
He also said, “Loud sound system cannot be used during the immersion process. Those who do not know how to swim are requested not to enter the water during the ablution.”
He said this in response to reporters' queries about the security measures taken by DMP on the occasion of Durga Puja at Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital on Tuesday (October 8) afternoon.
DMP Commissioner said, “Puja will be held in 253 puja mandaps in Dhaka city. Among them, there are 131 pavilions in Dhaka South City Corporation area, while 131 in North City Corporation area. Earlier, we held a coordination meeting so that puja can be held in Dhaka city in a peaceful and orderly manner.”
He said that there will be fixed police deployment at every puja mandap. More patrolling and checkposts by Thana police, checking system through high power CC cameras, setting up of archways and metal detectors will be done. DB Police will be deployed in Sada Pesha. Besides, sufficient number of Ansar forces will be deployed in each worship hall. At the same time RAB members along with the armed forces will perform patrolling and other security duties.
“Adequate number of traffic police has been deployed to ensure normal traffic flow during the puja. I have requested the puja committee not to hold any fair around the mandaps to avoid traffic jam,” Mainul added.
