Bashundhara Shuvosangho has celebrated the 76th birthday of legendary writer Humayun Ahmed in Mymensingh with a series of events, including discussions, a procession, and a cake-cutting ceremony.
The celebrated writer was born on 13 November 1948 in Kutubpur of Netrakona.
Today marks the 76th birth anniversary of the legendary writer, author, lyricist, educator, screenwriter, playwright and filmmaker who is often known as one of the best writers in Bengali literature after Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.
On this occasion, Shuvosangho activists of Gouripur Upazila unit brought out a procession around 2 pm, starting from Kalikhola area of the district town.
The rally marched through several streets of the town and ended back in Kalikhola area.
In addition to the members of Shuvosangho, local journalists, members of civil society and students from different schools and colleges took part in the procession to celebrate the day in a due manner.
Later, the members of Gouripur Bashundhara Shuvosangho cut a cake at a hotel as part of the programme.
Following the cake-cutting ceremony, many attendees engaged in a discussion about the life and literary works of the late writer.
The discussion session was addressed by President of Gouripur Bashundhara Shuvosangho, Shankar Ghosh Pilu, Vice President Toffazzal Hossain, General Secretary Harun Mia, Assistant General Secretary Sanjida Akter, Executive Members Obaidur Rahman, Rakibul Islam Rakib, Amena Akter, Pappu Pal, Jahangir Islam Sabbir and Joy Acharya.
Apart from them, members of Bangladesh Rover Scouts Ridi Akter, Rani, Sumaiya Akter and journalists Rais Uddin Rais, Faruk Ahmed and Ganesh Pal, among others, also addressed the session.
