Alongside sewing training, around 20 underprivileged women of Boalkhali Upazila of Chattogram aim to become self-sufficient by learning blogging, batik, hand painting and nakshi kantha stitching.
A free sewing training programme for 20 women was launched in Boalkhali Upazila recently with the support of the country’s largest industrial conglomerate, Bashundhara Group and the initiative of its social welfare organisation Shuvosangho.
After three months of sewing training, they are now busy with courses in blogging, batik, hand painting, and nakshi kantha stitching.
They are working tirelessly to develop their skills and many are now inspired to pursue their own dreams of becoming self-reliant.
Tanjila Akhter Jhumu, who participated in the training session, said, “After my divorce, I have been living at my parental home. Following the sewing training, I am now learning blogging, batik, hand painting, and nakshi kantha stitching. Our trainer, Tasleema Jinnat, is teaching us with great dedication.”
“I want to stand on my own feet by using these skills. Bashundhara Shuvosangho has extended a helping hand to support us in this journey,” Jhumu expressed her optimism.
Jannatul Naima Maisha another participant said, “My father runs a small tea shop to support our family. As we have no brothers in our family with three sisters, we have to take responsibility to run the family. I want to become self-solvent through training being given by Bashundhara Shuvosangho.”
“I have learned sewing and am now taking blogging and batik training. After gaining these skills, I hope to teach other people so that we can all become self-dependent, Insha’Allah. Upon completing the training, we will receive sewing machines each free of cost,” she said.
