Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gopalganj district unit organised a free blood grouping campaign on Saturday marking the International Blood Donation and Eye Donation Day.
The programme was held at the Ashrayan Project and a local orphanage in Puratan Manikdan village in the area. The event served over 200 individuals, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of knowing one’s blood type and encouraging blood donation with the slogan “Donate Blood, Save Lives.”
The campaign was inaugurated by Sujan Das, General Secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gopalganj branch and a member of the central committee.
He stressed the importance of knowing one’s blood type, particularly for economically disadvantaged communities who often lack access to such services. "Every person should know their blood type, but for those who can’t afford testing, Bashundhara’s initiative is a step toward bridging this gap," said Sujan Das.
The blood grouping campaign was conducted by students from Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College, including Rajib Kumar Saha, Raj Joydhar, Pritam Das, Avijit Das, and Pranto Pal.
Rajib Kumar Saha, one of the medical students, explained, "Blood donation is not something to be feared. Regular blood donation can even reduce the risk of high blood pressure."
Young participant Mabia Akter, age 9, shared her excitement after discovering her blood type for the first time, saying, "My father is a rickshaw puller and couldn’t afford my blood test for school. Now, I know my blood group is A-positive, and I feel really happy."
The event was also attended by key members of the Gopalganj district Shuvosangho committee, including Organizational Secretary Turjo Rahman, Social Welfare Secretary Ayon Saha, Education and Library Secretary Muzahidul Islam Sabbir, Sports Secretary Tamal Bose, and Publicity Secretary Samiul Alam.
