Bashundhara Shuvosangho hosted a discussion in Sherpur on Friday to celebrate National Youth Day, aiming to inspire the youth to engage in various social welfare activities.
The event took place at the IT Institute auditorium in Rajabari area of the district town, presided over by the institute's Executive Director Md Abdus Sattar Roni.
During the programme, Maulana Minhaj Uddin, joint secretary of the Shuvosangho local unit, delivered an inspirational speech, focusing on skills development for youth.
Minhaj Uddin, also an IT entrepreneur and web developer, called upon young people not to wait for job opportunities but to seek out training that enhances their skills and become successful entrepreneurs.
He highlighted the importance of developing oneself as a skilled human resource in the ICT sector.
There are many promising fields within the ICT sector, such as freelancing, outsourcing, graphic design, web design, web development and data entry, where youth can easily find self-employment, he said.
Furthermore, these can also help earn foreign currency and contribute to the country's economic prosperity, added the IT expert.
He called upon the youth to overcome any reluctance and alongside their studies, focus on acquiring skills in ICT and seek training in various trades through the Department of Youth Development and other organizations.
During the event, Hakim Babul, a local correspondent of Kaler Kantho, and Jobaidul Islam, a local correspondent of News24, also spoke during the session.
They also encouraged the youth to engage in at least one good deed each day to encourage other people to do the same.
They emphasized the importance of acquiring skills for personal development, saying that it is essential to adapt oneself to the changing times. Otherwise, there will be risks of lagging behind the race.
The event was attended by around 40 young men and women from various educational institutions in the area.
Youth Day or National Youth Day is a commemorative holiday in honour of young people, celebrated in different parts of the world on various dates throughout the year.
However, the day is observed in Bangladesh on every 1 November.
