Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Wednesday distributed food items among the victims of the recent devastating floods in two villages of Nalitabari upzila, Sherpur.
Each food package included rice, lentil, cooking oil, potato, onion and puffed rice.
The recipients in Baghber and Balurchar villages had been spending days without three meals per day since their homes went under water. Now, water levels have started receding, but the plight of the poor villagers are yet to improve significantly.
Falling water levels are only laying bare the sheer amount of losses people have to endure in the coming days.
In this backdrop, Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s food relief items appeared to them like a “ray of hope at the end of the tunnel.”
On receiving the food assistance, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho, and prayed for the bright fortune for all those involved with the organisation’s relief works.
To highlight the impact of the food reliefs, many told reporters that they will not have worries about food supplies over the next couple of days, after going hungry or barely half-fed for days and having lost almost all belongings.
The food relief distribution works were carried out by Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Jhenaigati upazila unit Vice-President Md Ibad Molla, Adviser Sajjad Hossain as well as Executive Committee Members Mosharraf Hossain, Shoaib and Anik.
